Rick Thiele is an award-winning director with an eye for emotional and conceptual narratives and distinct characters.
Rick got into the world of animation as a CG artist, progressing to a supervisor, then Art Director before becoming an Animation Director. Confident in his storytelling, he co-founded the award winning studio Red Knuckles and went onto direct Apple TV’s The Velveteen Rabbit (2023). The film won two Emmys and a BAFTA in Children’s Craft.
Red Knuckles is an independent animation studio with immense respect for the animation craft and artists, always striving to deliver the highest quality possible in every project. They work across a range animation techniques, from 3D, to 2D and stop-motion. Since its inception, the studio has won multiple awards including the Cannes Grand Prix, Gold Lion, Kinsale Shark, Gold at the ADC and numerous awards and selections at film festivals for their groundbreaking short films Dark Noir and Strange Beasts.
